Investment Strategy Salon Dinner Roundup: Insights from Scottsdale’s Top RIAs

Scottsdale allocators took some respite from the heat at Morton’s in Scottsdale, AZ, where Asset Allocator Institute ran its first Investment Strategy Salon Dinner in the area on August 14. It was great conversation all around, and guests found value in exploring each other’s insights.

“I enjoyed the speakers and meeting my peers,” said one wealth manager.

The focus of the featured strategies included dynamic funds focusing on opportunity zones, middle market private credit, and land investment with private credit and DST. With such a volatile macro environment, there was much to discuss.

“The market’s overheated,” said one investment consultant. “There is geopolitical conflict in Europe, and possibly another cooling up in Asia. Cryptos are gaining traction, while Americans’ savings are diminishing. But people in the world abroad are looking for places to park their money.”

The managers themselves shed insight on the wealth management industry through the flexibility of their offerings. One investment head was interested to learn how smaller funds created a niche for both investors and fund managers. “I was surprised to learn that investors operate on a much smaller scale than I always imagined. Once I thought about it, it was totally natural…not everyone could be Black Rock or LPL and Lennar,” he said. “I was very surprised to see that the manager’s total operation was in such a small region. I also thought that the lack of operational space keeping away competition was very interesting.”

The event ran until 8:15, but a few die hards were engaged enough to linger into the later hours, where we took the opportunity to enjoy a snifter of 16th century Louis XIII Cognac.
